Oh, back to school and back to swearing your kid will have the cutest, healthiest lunch in the cafeteria, right? Or maybe you’re like me and just want your kid to eat something that isn’t a bag of spicy chips and processed sweets. Don’t get me wrong, I wish I could make those dazzling displays of culinary creativity, but it just isn’t happening, and I am surprisingly okay with it. But I do want my kids to actually eat what I pack. And if your kids are like mine is nearly impossible because they seem to change their minds hourly.
Like many other households, our mornings are pretty much like a visit to the circus on a day when all hell breaks loose. The clowns are drunk; the animals are running amuck, and the ringmaster is asleep out back. So while I want the lunches to be healthy, they also have to be easy.
Check out places like Aldi or Trader Joe’s for budget-friendly shopping. Or if you like Walmart try their grocery pickup, order online and schedule your time to pick up. It has saved me money on avoiding lots of impulse buys, plus you can make it work with your schedule. Remember, nobody knows your kiddos like you do and these are meant to inspire. Feel free to modify for what works best for your family’s tastes and dietary needs.
