As I type away dreading another 100 degrees Texas day, I find myself fantasizing about cooler, crisper weather. While I love summer and all the summery fun, I could use me some Fall right about now. Oh, let me count the ways:
I love hometown high school football games.
We love a good Friday night football game around here. It’s one of the things that I love about moving back to the town where my husband and I grew up. Running into familiar faces in real life, sharing a laugh and then moving on. The concession food, the slightly cooler temps, the smell of the air, the band playing the fight song. All these things make me smile.
The change in the collective spirit.
There’s something about a season change that brings a renewed joy to a lot of people. I know for us, it’s the confirmation we aren’t going to sweat to death as soon as we go outside plus football season is always fun.
It’s the calm right before the crazy Holiday storm.
My husband has a big family, and we all live close, which means lots of togetherness during the holidays. And don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with them. They’re some of my favorite people. But it goes by in such a blur after Halloween that I look forward to the time right before. When everyone is excited at the thought because they haven’t been beaten down by family events yet.
Of all the fun festivals, fairs, and food.
If you don’t live somewhere that has street festivals, carnivals or a state fair, I am sorry to say you are missing out. I mean come on, food vendors, rides, games, live music, what’s not to love. Plus, they are family friendly. Mom and dad can sip wine from a local winery, and the kids get hopped on funnel cakes and fresh squeezed lemonade. Good times for all.
I am not going to say pumpkin spice, but I’ll try all their other new Fall creations.
I hate to admit, but I am a little burnt out on pumpkin spice. I know, I know, but seriously guys we took it a bit too far. But that doesn’t mean that I am too good to order whatever sugary latte whipped goodness they have pictured next to the drive-thru speaker. Creme Brule latte anyone?
I am tired of my butt cheeks burning to the seat of my car.
Yup, I looking forward to no more 3rd degree burns every time I get into my car. Get a sun shade you say? Look, I don’t have time to fight with one of those stupid things while my face melts into a puddle on my lap. Me and sun shades have battled for years. I have accepted that I am not winning that war. So Mother Nature let’s just go ahead and flip that switch, shall we?
Check back with me in March. I am sure I will be touting the virtues of Spring and cursing winter. But hey, what can I say I like a change up every now and again.
