Okay, so I will start this post with a confession. I myself have never stepped foot in a Trader Joe’s. While I know they are popular and there are ten within a relatively short driving distance from me, I have been scared to take the plunge. Mostly, because I once tried a Central Market and promptly walked out because I was overwhelmed. Of course, I was also seven months pregnant with my first, and it was 10 am on a Saturday. Not recommended for trying a new grocery store.
But after talking with my tribe, I have discovered that I am seriously missing out and will have to put my big girl panties on and try it out very soon. So, if you have been wondering what all the hype is about Trader Joe’s, I will share what I learned when I started asking around.
First off, if you have been living in a cave and have never even heard of Trader Joe’s and wonder who Joe is and why I am talking about them, it is a grocery chain that has been around for years and has recently gained superstar status. They believe in providing exceptional value to their customers as well as great items. If a product doesn’t sell, it gets pulled from their shelves. According to their website here is how they do it.
- They buy directly from their suppliers
- Buy volume and contract early for better prices
- They do not charge their suppliers a fee for carrying their goods
- They keep their costs low and pass the savings on to the consumer
Now on to the good stuff. Everybody, and I mean everybody, who shops at Trader Joe’s loves it. All types of families, moms, dads, I mean everyone. Here are some items that are must-haves when shopping at Trader Joe’s.
Trader Joe’s Must Haves
Wine. Over and over again my friends were singing the praises of their wine, apparently all of it.
Cheese. If you love a nice and (inexpensive) cheese tray, they have your fix. Plus, they have wine-soaked cheese. I mean, how have I missed this place?
Pizza dough and cauliflower pizza crust. Whatever your pleasure they have the tastiest.
Toasted Coconut Pancake mix (just add water). What?! I mean I am pretty sure that I could eat those for every meal.
Cookie butter. Apparently, this is magic in a jar and I’m sold just by the name. I wonder if it would be good on my toasted coconut pancakes?
Prepackaged salads. If you are looking for different flavor versions than other grocers carry, they got them, and I hear they are pretty tasty as well.
Overall, if you are looking for a one-stop shop for delicious groceries, it sounds like Trader Joe’s is the place to go. I heard over and over how great their fresh produce is and the freezer section is impressive. Happy hunting!
