Consumers spend millions of dollars each year on fast fashion, in part because the clothing simply doesn’t last. We’ve got four shops offering sustainable fashion that are changing the way they treat the environment. You might spend a little more up front, but these pieces will last a lifetime.
Upgrade your wardrobe with sustainable (and attainable) fashion from these great shops
Nudie Jeans (Available at ASOS)
This denim brand out of Scandinavia offers clothing that emits a laid back surfer vibe. Available for men, Nudie offers more than just jeans. They offer shirts, sweaters, and jackets in a range of styles. The brand prides itself on producing clothing via sustainable practices, such as using 100% organic cotton and having a production process that uses 91% less water over other companies. They pay all of their workers and vendors a living wage. They’re transparent about their practices and other business aspects, too. You can view the entire mens’ collection here.
A more familiar brand is Patagonia, best known for their winter outerwear. The company is very transparent about their sustainability practices, as seen in the corporate responsibility section of their website. The brand offers clothing for men, women, and kids. They do their best to create products that will stand the test of time, no matter how hard you play, but also do their best to leave as little of an impact on the environment as they can. The company even has a blog that takes a deep dive into many of their practices.
When it comes to sustainable fashion, you should also be thinking about your footwear. Veja is here to help. The company’s sustainable footwear for men, women, and kids is made of organic cotton and sustainable natural Amazonian rubber. The company’s owners refuse to work with farmers and vendors who don’t also have sustainable practices. Veja also has measures in place to prevent over-production and waste. Their line of vegan shoes is also just as cool as their non-vegan shoes.
You might already be familiar with Everlane, but the company is about to kick their fashion game up a couple of notches by releasing a line of outerwear sustainably made from plastic bottles. Like the other companies mentioned in this article, Everlane is also very transparent about where and how their clothing is made. Everlane has everything you could possibly need: pants, jeans, shirts, sweaters, shoes. Check out their Instagram stories every week for Transparency Tuesday, where fans and customers have a chance to get their questions answered. Come for the sustainability practices, stay for #dogsofeverlane.
